CASHLESS

On 1st of July 2023, the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) adopted a cashless system onboard all SPTC buses.

This move came with several motivation including reducing risk associated with having cash on buses, a greater sense of security for the drivers, a more fluid and faster boarding process for passengers, capturing all transaction within the main system of the company as well as for creating scope for having a more efficient structure to support the operations of the company.

The hard work for achieving this move dates back to pre-covid period at which point a few groups of our commuters were already using a bus card such as students and pensioners.

To ease the transition with our commuters, we made bus cards available for purchase on board buses over three months. At the same time, we had partnered with well over 80 resellers across Mahe and Praslin to not only sell bus cards but to also act as reloading points.

Commuters have options to reload their bus cards either through these points, using our website or by using our dedicated phone application.

Late 2023 we also enabled QR Code payment option on Praslin island through our phone app. This will also be deployed on Mahe as well as we progressively continue to upgrade our bus ticketing system on board each bus.
